A short drive outside the city, Sarnath is the place where Gautam Buddha first enunciated the Four Noble Truths after his enlightenment at Bodh Gaya after attaining enlightenment. The Dhamekh Stupa marks the spot at where Gautam Buddha gave his sermon.
